Meeting with ER Club on 10/1/2015
The following Webster Rotarians and guests enjoyed the hospitality of the East Rochester Club last Thursday at the Grapevine Restaurant: Rich, Kathy, Herb, Bob, Donna, Dolly, Don, John, Robyn, Brian, Dennis, Ross, Prospective Rotarians Ray and Marlene Manginell, Guests Shirley and Jim (Rochester Club) Isaac.  In addition to a warm reception and a good meal we had the pleasure of hearing an informative and enthusiastic presentation on Camp Haccamo for the Co-director Alison Schmit.
Beautification of Rotary Grove 10/3/2015
In addition to 3 generations of Winslows ( Brian 59,Ted 31, Tim 26 & Colton almost 2) the following Rotarians spent Saturday Morning cleaning up and landscaping Rotary Grove: Rich, Robyn, Bill, Herb, John, Dennis, Dolly, Ray, Marlene, Karen Collins and 4 Thomas Interact members.  It is my understanding that they removed a large amount of brush and undergrowth and greatly improved the appearance of the grove. Meeting of 10/8/15 Schroeder High School Room N100.  Our 1st official meeting as a dessert club.

President Robyn called the meeting to order and asked Bill to lead us in the pledge to our flag and Dolly for the prayer.  In keeping with this year’s theme, “Rotary is a gift to the World”, President Robyn gave Dolly a gift (which included a bottle in a paper brown bag) for all her work for Camp Haccamo and Rotary
Reports and Information
Rich explained the work done last Saturday Rotary Grove on the and said we would be applying for a grant to build a bridge for handicap access  to the arboretum.  He has approached Lowes to see if they would help with a donation of materials and labor. 
Joe P distributed sign up sheets for the distribution of dictionaries to 3rd graders.  This year the dictionaries will be delivered by the school districts to the elementary schools.
Eastern Cities Dinner 10/18 4:30 registration/reception, 5:30 dinner and program.  Sign up online and mention you are from the Webster Club.  $50.
Rochester Leadership Institute 11/7 Canandaigua. President Robyn is going.  Anyone interested in going should contact her.
Dolly and Robyn reported on Thomas and Schroeder Interact Clubs.  Thomas has 206 members and Dolly has recruited 4 members for working at the arboretum and 4 to help with the highway cleanup.  No report on Schroeder.
Bill payed tribute to Robert “Bucky” Buckpit, longtime Rochester Rotarian who died 10/3  Bob was past president, generous contributor to Rochester Sunshine Camp and song leader for the Rochester Club.
Adopt-a-Highway-Last pickup of the year.  Saturday 10/10 at 7:15 A.M. Usual meeting place (parking lot next to the Veterans Memorial Park)
Adopt-A-Platoon-Rich received word through Herb that there is a platoon we can adopt.  At this point we have little information about the troop because they are already deployed in Iraq and will be there for 9 months.  Rich is in the process of getting more information about the troop. ( A contact person, number in troop, birthdays and anniversaries and likes of each member.)  Dennis will send out a list of suggested donations.  The club underwrites the postage ($14 per box) and club members and friends supply the goodies.
Ronald McDonald House-Next Thursday we will be preparing dinner at the Ronald McDonald House. This will be in place of our regular meeting.  8 Chefs are needed, so far 6 members have agreed to go.  Menu is ham, potatoes, vegetable and apple crisp.  Preparation starts at 5 P.M. Plan to leave Webster at 4:15 P.M.
Our foundation party is planned for Thursday 11/5 at Hedges.  There will be humorous informative talks and games.  Menu choices same as our last meeting there: Prime rib, Chicken French, Tuna.  Watch future Spokes for more information.
Irondequoit Pasta Dinner 11/8 1 P.M. to 7 P.M. at Bishop Kearney High School.  The club has bought tickets, if you want to buy one see Robyn.
Brian reported on the Pancake Breakfast and distributed posters and tickets.  It’s our 38th annual one and will be on Sunday, 11/15 from 8 A.M. to Noon. Plan to do the same job you did last year.  Each dictionary that we distribute will have a bookmark advertising the breakfast.  Start selling tickets.
6 weeks’ worth of drawings were made for the 20 week 50/50.  That catches up to date.
Happy Dollars: We had a very happy group, my observation is that everyone in attendance was happy for one or more reasons.  Fortunately or unfortunately neither my ears nor the mike on my android could pick up all of the reasons so not to slight anyone, I’m not reporting any, except Dolly’s $10 for her 75th birthday, Happy Birthday, Dolly.
