Discussion Items:
< >President’s IntroThank you Tom for once again offering a gracious blessing.Welcome to guests Chuck Mertz, Ginny, and Yana of ROCovery Fitness, Inc.Joe reminded everyone of Annual Christmas party, Friday 12/15 at the Fireman’s Exempt building…2pm setup, 5pm start.  Kathy followed with a brief update:Numbers are somewhat lower than previous years (43 current)Date was discussed as a potential conflict, looking at Dec. 7th next yearInteract students will be there to helpWe were reminded that the check presentation of proceeds from the Garlic Festival will be Saturday morning (12/16), 8:30am at the Rec Center.  Funds support Hope House, Webster Community Chest and Miracle Field. There’s no meeting next week in observance of the holiday.Club Christmas party is scheduled for Dec. 28th with “white elephant” gift exchange (and guest night).  It is hoped we will have scholarship winners in attendance.Program:Ginny Nacy and Yana Khashper, representing ROCovery Fitness, presented on this worthwhile program.Ginny shared her experience of her son’s overdose death at 32yrs old and her involvement in Rocovery.Yanna, a recovered drug addict and alcoholic described her battle with addiction, as well as her current life of sobriety.  She started ROCovery Fitness 2 ½ years ago.  Her personal story was founded in developing addiction and lack of coping skills that allow her to deal with life’s stress.  The ROCovery Fitness program, based on peer-led sober activities, grew as she sought alternative healthy diversion. This is one of just two similar programs in the country and the only one in NYS.The accompanying Q & A centered on a discussion of ‘gateway’ drugs, recent opioid addiction issues, current trends (nationally and locally), and volunteer opportunities.Joe clarified the ‘white elephant’ party process.  It was suggested that ‘stealing’ another’s selection is still available but that this year we might add the option to ‘keep’ any gift for a $5 donation.Kudos to Bob Goldstein in recognition of his 40 years as a Rotarian!
