President’s Intro
  • Welcome guests and thank you to Ross for getting us started with a blessing.
  • We’ve been notified by Penfield CC that they’re raising dinner prices to $23 as of January 1st.  Consensus was this increase was prohibitive and several options were considered.  It was proposed that this Webster Community Center, a consistently productive working environment, would be a good base site for 2-3 meetings each month.  That would allow for the 4th monthly meeting to be held at a more formal restaurant (i.e. PCC, Hedges, Proietti’s, etc.), perhaps with a more ‘social’ focus.  It was noted that the Community Center allowed for one ‘free’ meeting each month but that there would be a fee ($25) for other meetings.  It was then suggested we might try to schedule and pay for a longer term (6mos-1yr) at $75/month.
  • Rich presented a brief update on plans for meeting with troops on February 10 at 12pm.  Address and direction details TBA.  It was suggested attendees (approx. 36-40 positive responses) plan to arrive by 11:30 and carpools are encouraged.  In exploring food options Rich reached out to Proietti’s and received an extremely attractive and generous offer of food (and driver/server) “at cost”.  Thank you Proietti’s!
  • Kathy answered questions and provided a brief update on plans for supporting the “Open Door Mission” by serving breakfast on the 2nd Friday of each month.  The first scheduled breakfast is Friday, Feb.9th.  Volunteers should plan to arrive at 6:20am, typically finishing by 7:20am.  From experience the ideal staffing number is about 6 workers.  Address and directions to be distributed soon.  Volunteers for Feb. 9th include:
Bob G.             Spencer S.       Kathy D.           Dennis Z.         Dolly M.
John D.            Tom S.             Robyn W.         Robert W.
Program Notes:
  • The main task for tonight was background and planning for the 2018 Robynpalooza Golf Tourney.  Robyn led the discussion including details from her experiences since the inception of this event.  Her suggestions on the breakdown of tasks into “teams”, that would also encourage as much Rotary participation as possible, provided the basis for our planning.  John S added some additional areas that he suggested as necessary to the structure of the teams.

< >Specific duties remain to be defined and regular progress updates are anticipated.  It was noted that each task was not the exclusive responsibility of the members of each team alone, that all Rotarians can help solicit donations and support whenever possible. There was some discussion on the specific organizations that should be identified as beneficiaries of this event.  Traditionally the Robynpalooza has benefitted the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life but there were several worthy recipients mentioned.  There was a great deal of interest in focusing on smaller, local ‘grass roots’ organizations.  Rotarians are encouraged to email suggestions to the Management Team by February 1st for early selection.Tonight’s food and Excellent Meeting! x 6Dolly’s 1st time skiing at Bristol.Almost through January winter.Just for the hell of it JBrian’s 62nd birthday (1/22)…and Emily’s due date (1//19)Happy for Rotarian friends.Robyn’s “yea” for cars.Looking forward to the Robynpalooza golf.Bill is glad to be back!Robert’s 5th meetingRoss’s story on the origination of “white elephant” gifts.
